About

My name is Alexandra Craig. I am currently a sophomore History major at the University of Texas at Austin.

This blog was created as a final project for Dr. Penne Restad’s “Thinking Like a Historian” class that I took the semester of fall 2013. The point of this project is to conduct research on a topic of our choosing that began from examining a four block area on the 1907 Sanborn map of Houston. Throughout this blog you will find my research process, sources, research question, and preliminary conclusion. My research is in no way complete. This blog shows the outline and base I have for further research on this topic. It does not claim to be a completed research paper, just the basis for one. The posts go in chronological order to give the viewer a better idea of my thought process, for this reason it is important to start from the bottom of the page and work up to the end.

I would like to give special thanks to the Dolph Brisco Center for American History for allowing our class to explore their archives and to their archivists for all their patients with us. Also, I would like to thank Dr. Restad for being supportive through this organic research process as well as my classmates for all they contributed to our shared efforts.
